In 2004, the Board of Directors of the 100 Club of Rhode Island authorized the awarding of a Medal of Valor to public safety personnel who have shown outstanding valor in the line of duty.

Individuals are nominated by their respective departments, and the Award recipient is chosen by a board of their peers.

  • Valor Award to RI State Trooper Roupen Bastajian for his heroic behavior after finishing the 2013 Boston Marathon. He saved a women’s life after the bombs went off.

  • Valor Award to Jermaine Woods, a Providence firefighter since 1991. While off duty, he heard an explosion from a nearby home. Without hesitation, he put himself in harm’s way to save a mother and her child from a heavy fire situation without any fire protection or fire gear or regard for his own safety.
